Knellpoort Dam is located in the Free State province of South Africa, near the town of Thaba 'Nchu, and is primarily used for water supply and irrigation. Built in 1988, it is a smaller dam compared to some of South Africa’s larger reservoirs, with a surface area of about 4.6 square kilometers and a capacity of around 136 million cubic meters.
